Replacing an old timber fence

New boundary fence between Auckland Properties

Auckland has a myriad of streets and many property sections are in the 600sqm range – often with tight spaces between properties. I met up with a new client to talk through a new boundary fence running from the top of the driveway to the bottom of the property connecting with the rear boundary fence.

After consulting with the client we decided to remove the old chainmail fence as well as the block wall which ran along the length of the boundary driveway.

The challenge was definitely removing the block wall, all very doable but hard work, a skip was required and time to roll up our sleeves. Once the wall was removed we hired a jackhammer in order to remove some of the base concrete and dig the holes needed to install the fence posts. There was also an old concrete edging along the full length of the boundary fence line. Instead of removing the entire edging we cut holes in the concrete where the new fence posts needed to be installed.

The client wanted the fence to be constructed with horizontal timber slats 2.1 metres high with a vertical timber slat detail every metre as well as a timber capping which really finishes the look of the fence. The fence was 45 metres long and the horizontal timber slats do take a bit longer to construct rather than a standard vertical paling fence however in this case it was matching the other two boundary fences. We also built two timber gates on either side of the property matching the horizontal timber fences to keep the kids secure.

When deciding to construct a boundary fence it is important to consult with the neighbours and double check where the services run through the property.

The final product looked amazing and the client was very happy, now time for the kids to help paint the fence.
